MONCTON, NB -- There will be a recreational striped bass fishery in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence again this year, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has announced.

A recreational catch and release fishery will run from May 1 to September 30. Only single non-offset barbless hooks can be used in the recreational fishy.

As well, between May 1 and May 21, August 1 and August 21 and from September 24 to 30, anglers will be able to retain a maximum of one striped bass per day but cannot possess more than one striped bass at any time.

To protect both the immature fish and the large spawners, only fish that are between 50 and 65 centimeters in length can be retained.

As part of the data collection on the recreational retention fishery, anglers will be requested to fill out survey forms which will be used in making future management decisions.
