VALLEY – Information pertaining to the official cause of death of two women murdered in a Pictou Road residence will have to wait for an eventual court hearing, an RCMP spokesman says.

“They won’t release the cause of death for investigative reasons,” Sgt. Al LeBlanc said on Monday.

The bodies of Elizabeth MacPherson, 53, and her daughter Brittany, 24, were discovered in the elder MacPherson’s residence at 492 Pictou Rd. on Dec. 27.

Gerald Ashley Rushton, 47, who lived with the elder MacPherson, has been charged with first-degree murder in both deaths.

Rushton was found to be in serious condition with self-inflicted wounds when police arrived at the scene.

He is to appear in provincial court in Truro on Jan. 15 to set a preliminary hearing date.
