CAVENDISH – CMA Male Vocalist of the Year, Blake Shelton, is coming to Cavendish next summer. Shelton, who is also a judge on the television series “The Voice”, has been announced as the Saturday night headliner for the sixth annual Cavendish Beach Music Festival.
The Lotto Max presents the Cavendish Beach Music Festival announced Tuesday the beginning of its 2014 lineup, which also includes the return of Lady Antebellum, as well as Gord Bamford, Brett Kissel, Darius Rucker, and Hunter Hayes.
Performing Saturday, July 5, Shelton is the recipient of Album of the year and has 15 No. 1 hits.
Also performing on July 5 is Darius Rucker. Since re-introducing himself to the world as a country artist, Rucker has had a remarkable few years. In 2008, he released “Learn to Live.” The album's first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," made him the first African American with a No. 1 country song since Charley Pride in 1983.
Performing on Sunday, July 6, Hunter Hayes, CMA’s Best New Artist and Teen Choice Award’s Male Country Artist of the Year, has earned a No. 1 video with “Wanted”, a BMI songwriting award for “Storm Warning”, and a nominee at both the Academy of Country Music Awards and the CMT Music Awards.
Performing on Friday, July 4, Lady Antebellum returns to the Cavendish Beach stage after their epic performance in 2010.
Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, following their CBMF 2010 performance said, “Honestly one of the most exciting shows we have ever been a part of.”
Since 2010, Lady Antebellum received Vocal Group of the Year honours from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music three times in a row. Eight of the band’s singles went gold, with four – “American Honey,” “Need You Now,” “Just a Kiss” and “I Run to You” – surpassing the platinum mark. Additionally, “Need You Now” claimed five of the trio’s seven career Grammy wins in 2011, including the all-genre Record and Song of the Year.
Also performing on Friday, July 4, will be Canadian Country Music Association 2013 award winner Gord Bamford. He continues to raise the bar with his first ever No. 1 Country Radio single for the song “When Your Lips Are So Close,” on the heels of his 2013 CCMA CMT Video of the Year, Single of the Year and Album of the Year awards.
It’s pretty tough for Brett Kissel to be ignored. This 23-year-old singer/songwriter will also perform on July 4, and has released two independent albums, sold out countless shows, and earned two Canadian Country Music Association Award nominations, becoming its youngest nominee ever. His current single “Raise Your Glass” is top 20 at country radio for this rising star in the Canadian country music scene.
Jeff Squires, president of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival, said, “We are excited to announce the 2014 artists and we are even more excited for the best weekend of the summer. We are pleased to present the 6th year of the festival once again bringing world-class entertainment to the North Shore of Prince Edward Island.”
Brent Scrimshaw, president and CEO of Atlantic Lottery, the presenting sponsor of the music festival, added, “In only its sixth year, the Cavendish Beach Music Festival has become the concert destination for country music fans nationwide. We're proud to be a part of this world-class event and to contribute to the richness and fibre of Island culture."
