SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Since 2003, HMCS Charlottetown has been making strides to raise money for the P.E.I. Chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation that is dedicated to granting wishes to children aged 3 to 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
This year the 16th annual “Run for Wishes” campaign kicked off on Monday.
Crew from HMCS Charlottetown have participated in the charitable effort that’s centered upon a volunteer run, and thanks to this support the event has grown significantly in visibility and volunteerism.
This year’s event runs from July 17-21 and the goal is to raise between $35,000-40,000. The P.E.I. Chapter is currently working on 23 wishes for Island children.
The team lead for the HMCS Run for Wishes is Sub-Lieutenant Kirk Lapointe. He and all of the sailors invite the public to join them for a run or meet them at certain local Sobeys locations where a barbecue will take place at the end of their run that kicks off at 3 p.m.
They hope that when the run passes through each community that people may be available to come and support the team.
To make an online donation, please visit childrenswish.ca/hmcsrunforwishes or look for sailors carrying “the boot.” To make a donation by phone or run a section of the event with the team, please call Children’s Wish Foundation at 902-566-5526.
