Council holding pre-budget public meeting
Summerside City Council will hold a public meeting for pre-budget review on Jan. 29 starting at noon. Due to the recent passing of the new Municipalities Act, the city will no longer have an annual general meeting. In response, council has scheduled a public meeting a minimum of two weeks before the budget will be voted on. The 2018 budget vote is scheduled for the February monthly council meeting.
Program to target new and returning faces
The City of Summerside has recently re-launched their “Homeward Bound” program (formerly known as “The Connection Program”) targeting students, ex-pats and business immigrants to come or return to the area. The city has profiled three local individuals and groups to be the faces of the program and plan to add more over the year. The idea is to share the stories of these people as well as other Summerside triumphs. The launch is promoted on the city’s website and social media.

Lobster Carnival 2018 development underway
In the monthly Culture Summerside report read at the recent city council meeting, it was announced that development of this year’s edition of the Lobster Carnival was underway. No further details about the carnival were provided.
December wind generates nearly half of Summerside power
Wind power production remained high in December with 48 per cent of the city’s power coming from renewable energy. The peak electricity for the month was the highest ever seen in Summerside with the colder weather and electric heating needs bringing the usage up to 27.9 megawatts.
