Opposition leader James Aylward says government is padding the numbers of the provincial patient registry.
Aylward said during Wednesday’s question period that Islanders are being told different things about the patient registry depending on where they live.
He said Dr. Michele Barton is leaving Summerside in June. A notice at Dr. Barton’s office in Summerside advises patients to add their names to the patient registry. However, Aylward said those in West Prince who have lost their family doctor have been told not to go on the registry.
Health Minister Robert Mitchell said Islanders are free to add their name to the registry.
He said the province has suggested to West Prince patients that having a full panel together provides a more consistent transition when a new doctor is found.
