Former long-time Summerside mayor, Basil Stewart, has been admitted to hospital in Saint John, N.B., after suffering a serious health incident Tuesday night.
Stewart’s condition is unknown.
His son, Major Stewart, indicated Wednesday afternoon that his family was waiting for updates and would have nothing more to share for at least a few days.
As word of Stewart’s condition spread Wednesday, people started leaving get-well-soon messages on his Facebook page.
“Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, saying lots of prayers for you. Get well soon my friend,” wrote one person.
Stewart was mayor of Summerside from 1985 to 2014 and is a former president of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities. He is also a board member of the National Capital Commission, which is an organization responsible for managing public land and properties in the Ottawa area.
Basil and Major recently opened a Dixie Lee restaurant franchise in Downtown Summerside.
