SUMMERSIDE – A former city councillor is putting their name forward for the upcoming municipal election.

Jim Steele is seeking the nomination in Ward 5: Hillcrest – Platte River, the area which he and his wife have lived in for the last 13 years.

Steele was a councillor from 2010 to 2014 and served as the chairman of the recreation department and co-chairman of the electric department. During this time, he served the residents of Ward 4: Clifton – Market.

Now he is turning his attention to Ward 5 and the city at large.

He says he has great interest in the city’s hydro issues, i.e. generation plant, pushing for the Holland College property clean-up, lobbying for a new fire gall, the double tax issue that mobile home parks face and keeping pressure on the provincial government concerned future closures of mobile home parks.

“Much work still needs to be accomplished towards affordable and senior housing needs in our area and continued development of addition recreational needs for tends and young families.

Steele worked as an electric worker for the city for 34 years and coach minor hockey and softball for over 20. He is presently the president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Summerside.

Also running in Ward 5: Hillcrest – Platte River are current councillor Greg Campbell and Barb Gallant.
