A coroner is investigating the death of an inmate of the Provincial Correctional Centre.
Chief coroner Dr. Desmond Colohan told The Guardian Tuesday he is waiting for that coroner to recommend whether or not there is a need for an inquest.
Colohan says the issue centres on whether the death was preventable or whether it was from natural causes.
“I understand there were medical issues,’’ he noted.
The death occurred after a period of treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, confirmed a spokeswoman with the P.E.I. Department of Justice and Public Safety.
