A Crown corporation that handles provincial loans and P.E.I.’s immigration program could have members of the public joining its board of directors.

Opposition MLA Steven Myers tabled the bill and brought it to the floor of the legislature Tuesday for debate. That bill would have changed the makeup of the board for Island Investment Development Inc. (IIDI) to include five members of the public.

Under the current legislation, the board includes members who are deputy ministers.

Economic Development Minister Chris Palmer tabled an amendment, which allows for two deputy ministers and the corporation’s executive director on the board, along with four members of the public.

The bill passed with unanimous support of the house, including Palmer’s amendment.
