Filmworks bringing animated film to Cineplex Summerside Dec. 6

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – “The Breadwinner,” by Canada’s Aircraft Pictures, just received 10 Annie Award nominations including a nomination for Best Animated Feature – Independent.

This recognition is in addition to Sunday’s win from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) and Monday’s nomination from the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society (LAOFCS), both for Best Animated Feature.

Filmworks Summerside will present “The Breadwinner,” the animated adaptation of the bestselling young adult novel by Canadian author Deborah Ellis, at Cineplex Cinemas in Summerside, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

“The Breadwinner” is a Canada-Ireland-Luxembourg co-production between Aircraft Pictures, Cartoon Saloon and Melusine Productions in association with executive producer Angelina Jolie.

Parvana is an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family. Working alongside her friend Shauzia, Parvana discovers a new world of freedom – and danger. With undaunted courage, she draws strength from the fantastical stories she invents, as she embarks on a quest to find her father and reunite her family.

Equal parts thrilling and enchanting, “The Breadwinner” is an inspiring and luminously animated tale directed by Nora Twomey about the power of stories to sustain hope and carry us through dark times. Tickets for the Dec. 6 screening in Summerside are $10 at the door. Filmworks season passes are still available – $42 for six remaining films.
