SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Summerside artist Lise Genova named her current art exhibit, now on display at MacNaught History Centre and Archives, “Rebirth” in honour of spring. It seems she made the right choice because as the exhibit was being officially opened, on April 10, the sun came out in full force, and a rainbow appeared in the sky in front of the building. It was as though spring had indeed arrived.
The large gathering of people viewing the exhibit commented about being energized by its colour and vibrancy.
A gardener at heart, Genova presents paintings of flowers in the exhibit as a tribute to spring and nature once again recreating itself. She is also showing some of her more imaginative folklore images, which depict the life and occupations of the habitants of Prince Edward Island.
The established artist and art teacher chose to show new works in groupings that may not necessarily appear to belong together, but for the artist, represent a different approach to her subjects.
“Rebirth” will be on display in the MacNaught History Centre art gallery space until the end of May. It can be viewed Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge. MacNaught is located at 75 Spring Street, Summerside.
