INDIAN RIVER, P.E.I. – From Sept. 15 to 30, the bewitching voices of soprano Martha Guth and baritone Tyler Duncan with pianist Erika Switzer are sure to captivate audiences in all four Atlantic provinces as they embark on a 15-day tour with Debut Atlantic.

Touching down in Indian River, this ensemble, called New Voices, will be presented by the Indian River Festival, on Sunday, at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church.

Their Sept. 17 program will first enchant with the comforts of Schumann’s well-loved song cycle “Dichterliebe” and then entice as they venture through a lyrical yet forceful musical landscape in a new commission titled “Earthquakes and Islands” by Canadian composer Andrew Staniland featuring the brutally honest and powerful poetry of Robin Richardson.

To quote Staniland himself, “Guth, Duncan and Switzer are interpreters of the very highest calibre, bringing vivid and rivetingly powerful musicianship to their interpretation of my new work ‘Earthquakes and Islands,’ written especially for them. Paired with Schumann’s ‘Dichterliebe,’ widely acclaimed as of the greatest cycles in the repertoire, this is a concert that is not to be missed.”

In addition to concert engagements, New Voices will be working with young students and performing at schools throughout the region. They will also be giving a number of master classes and workshops to university music students.

They will participate in a videoconference session hosted by Newfoundland’s Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI), which reaches hundreds of students throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and will be available for public viewing around the globe at a later date.
