Charlottetown centre offering new programs in 2017

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.– The new year means new programs at the Martha Spirituality Centre in Charlottetown.

The centre, located at SDU Place on Great George St., is offering five new programs with some beginning before the end of January.

There will be a new study of the encyclical Laudato Si: Our Common Home by Pope Francis, which will discuss the spiritual necessity of caring for the Earth. The study group will meet on the first and third Monday evenings of the month at 7 p.m. beginning Jan. 23. Participants must be registered before Jan. 10 so texts can be ordered. Cost is $40.

Starting on Feb. 13 is a women’s spirituality series to be held on the second and fourth Monday evenings of the month. This series of six sessions will focus on the women around Jesus. Registrations are accepted until Feb. 10 or while spaces last. Cost is $30 and includes all materials.

A returning session, “Aging as a Spiritual Journey” by Dr. Nuala Kenny, SC, will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Jan. 30, and Feb. 6 and Feb 13. The three-part DVD series includes discussion, reflection and prayer. Cost is $15 for the three sessions, payable at the first session. Participants need to register by Jan. 25.

A three-part webcast series will be held on Jan. 11, Jan. 25 and Feb. 8 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The series goes through the Scriptures and costs $15. Registration closes on Jan. 9.

A health literacy series will by held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month beginning on Jan. 12. The series will feature a number of guest speakers. All are welcome to attend but are asked to contact the centre to reserve a seat.
