ABRAM-VILLAGE - The Acadian Festival recently announced changes to its Acazing Talent Competition for 2014.
This year, to enable greater participation, the competition is open to all ages. There will be three categories: Category 1 for 12 years and under, Category 2 for youth 13 to 20 years old, and Category 3 for adults 21 years and older. The competition is open to amateurs only.
Individuals or groups may participate in the language of their choice. All disciplines of artistic expression are eligible. The maximum number of possible entries in the contest is set at 18 participants.
This year, only two prizes per category will be offered. The winners will share the following prizes: Category 1 - $150 and $75, Category 2 - $250 and $125, Category 3 - $400 and $200, plus a People’s Choice prize of $100.
The mascot of the Acadian Festival, Acazing, will be the host of this event and invites people to register immediately to secure a place in the competition, because only the first six entries in each category will be accepted. Entries will be received until Aug. 22. For more information on the contest and to register, call 854-3417 or write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
"There is so much talent on Prince Edward Island and we are confident that this great activity will once again be very popular with the public,” said Eric Richard, president of the exposition agricole et le festival Acadien. “I sincerely hope that artists from across our beautiful province enter the contest.”
The competition is set for Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village at 7:30 p.m.
