VICTORIA – The Victoria Playhouse will present the Cynthia MacLeod Trio with special guest Brian Dunn on Monday, July 14, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

MacLeod is described as one of Prince Edward Island’s finest ambassadors of traditional music, carving a distinct style of fiddling that embraces her local roots and her ancestral connection to the Scottish highlands. Since the beginning of her career as a young teenager, she has spent more than 15 years on stages on P.E.I., across Canada, into the U.S., and as far abroad as Cuba and Japan, entertaining audiences with her unique performance style.

Joining MacLeod will be Jon Matthews and Remi Arsenault. Matthews is an acclaimed producer, recording engineer, musician, and songwriter, He is the owner of the Sound Mill, a four-time winner of Music PEI’s Recording Studio of the Year and three-time nominee for the East Coast Music Awards Studio of the Year.

Arsenault is a multi-instrumentalist who plays regularly with the Avonlea Showband and has toured Canada, the U.S. and Europe with many musicians including Dominique Dupuis, Andrea Beaton, Vishten and Fayo.

Special guest Brian Dunn is an Island singer-songwriter whose unique, yet familiar, Americana style is reminiscent of Ryan Adams or Ray LaMontagne. Dunn recently released his debut album, “Death Do Us Part.” Songs need a source of inspiration and there is no greater inspiration than a personal experience with life and death. The album is born from the pain and sadness of losing his wife Susan to cancer in 2011, but also the joy and hopefulness brought by his three young children.
