KENSINGTON - The 22nd annual Kensington Step Dance Festival will be presented at the Murray Christian Education Centre in Kensington June 3, 4, and 5.
This three-day festival will showcase numerous traditional dances including jigs, reels, strathespeys, and original choreographies, among other dance styles from dancers studying all over P.E.I. There are three daily sessions (at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 6 p.m.), and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the talent P.E.I. has to offer.
The Kensington Step Dance Festival committee welcomes this year's adjudicator Kolten MacDonell, who is originally from Glencoe, Cape Breton. He began to step dance and play music at a young age. MacDonell performed on the Bravo documentary "And They Danced; Rita MacNeil's Cape Breton", as well as dance and music festivals throughout the United Kingdom and Australia, and will teach at the 2014 Willie Clancy Festival in Milltown, Ireland.
He is a long-time teacher at St. Ann's Gaelic College in Cape Breton, and has also taught at Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School and the Ceilidh Trail School of Celtic Music.
