SUMMERSIDE – Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside is looking for young actors to perform in “The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom”this summer. Auditions will take place at Harbourfront Theatre on Tuesday, May 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Two young male actors will share the role of young Tom, a poor boy, should appear to be eight to 10 years old, who travels with his destitute mother and ends up in an orphanage and eventually with foster parents in Skinners Pond. This role requires an actor who can handle dialogue well, is comfortable onstage, has a strong speaking voice and can memorize lines easily.  Previous experience is an asset.

Two young females will share the role of young Mary, a little girl who should appear to be five to seven years of age. Mary has few lines but is in two scenes. Some experience is an asset, but not a requirement. This role requires a young actress who is comfortable around people and has a strong speaking voice.

Rehearsals will take place from June 9 through June 25. Performances of “The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom”will run six nights per week, Tuesday through Sunday, from June 26 through Aug. 30. Because each role will double cast, each actor will be required to perform a minimum of three shows per week.

To request an audition time slot, call 432-3046 and leave a voice mail indicating contact name and number and audition time requested. Parents and children should expect to stay for approximately one hour. Auditions will be held in groups, on the hour. Indicate which time (4, 5, 6or 7 p.m.) is preferable. All phone calls will be returned and spots will be booked on a first come, first served basis.
