“We’re honoured that Cayouche has accepted to return to the Evangeline region for a third time to tell us some of his many stories and to play his fantastic Acadian-folk-country songs for us,” says Marcel Bernard, co-president of the Acadian Musical Village. “We are guaranteed that this purebred Acadian performer, who considers himself an ‘old hippy’, will deliver us a most entertaining evening,” promise organizers.
The May 21 show begins at 9 p.m. with a few opening songs by local performers Marcel Caissie and Allan Gallant. The guest of honour will then climb onto the stage with his guitar and his case of Alpine. Then whatever happens happens.
Born in Moncton, N.B., in 1948, and active in the musical world since 1994, Cayouche has produced five albums and hundreds of shows. Especially known for his uniting and festive performances, the singer has maintained a constant popularity throughout Canada and Europe. The “Cayouche phenomenon” gets people from all generations singing and dancing. He is among the few Acadian artists in history to have sold more 100,000 albums.
Among his biggest hits are “Export A,” “La chaine de mon tracteur,” “L’alcool au Volant,” “C’est ça mon Acadie” and “La reine du bingo.”
Cayouche, who now lives in Maisonnette, N.B., was the subject of a documentary film entitled “Cayouche : Le temps d’une bière” by Maurice André Aubin in 2009.
