Picket lines up as Canada Post technical employees launch strike
STAFF THE CANADIAN PRESS
HALIFAX — Picket lines are up at several post offices around Atlantic Canada as the union representing 2,100 administrative and technical workers goes out on strike.
In Nova Scotia job action is taking place in Halifax, Antigonish and Sydney.
Lines have also gone up in St. John’s, N.L. and Saint John, N.B.
The workers, members of the Union of Postal Communications Employees, make up about five per cent of Canada Post’s labour pool.
In a release issued today the union says they are fighting against a new, short term disability system that the Crown corporation is trying to impose on them.
In some locations members of other unions are refusing to cross the picket lines.

Wondering from PEI writes: It has me wondering if Postal Workers want us the Public who in turn pays their wages to support them they should consider how they respond to us
A week ago going into our local Post Office when a Female Postal Worker was coming in behind me and I smiled and made a general comment - she stared coldly at me and proceeded in - I know the majority (99.9%) of our local Postal Workers are not like this and I would not personally punish the others for her actions but Public Workers really should consider how they treat the public
This has to me got to do with strikers as thank heavens most of the Postal Workers I know are decent workers but all should remember the Public in the end are the ones paying their wages
