It was a rough day for the Summerside Hemphill GM Chevys on Saturday.
The Chevys dropped both ends of a New Brunswick Senior Baseball League doubleheader to the Saint John Alpines. The scores were 7-1 and 12-1 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, the Alpines scored four times in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Neil Jeffery, who drove in four runs, led the Alpines with a 2-for-3 batting summary.
He also scored a run. Mike King (2-4, run scored) was the other top batter for Saint John (11-9).
Nick Cameron, Ty Hughes, Jason Doyle and Craig Noonan all had one hit apiece for the Chevys (3-12).
Winning pitcher Sherman Yeo went the distance, giving up four hits, striking out 11 and issuing one free pass. Adam Gaudet, who tossed a complete game, took the loss.
His line read three earned runs, nine hits, one walk and one strikeout.
Game 2
Six Alpines had multiple-hit games in the second game. They were Andrew O'Leary (2-3, two walks, three RBI), Paul Hickey (2-3, two walks, two runs scored, two RBI), King (2-4, RBI), Ryan Lavine (2-3, run scored), Tom Vanwart (2-4, walk, two runs scored, two RBI) and Jeffery (2-5, walk, RBI).
The Alpines scored four times in the fourth inning to open up a 7-1 lead.
Cameron, Doyle, Hughes, Janson Simmonds, Jason Monaghan and Ryan MacLeod all had one hit each to account for the Chevys' six hits off winning pitcher Shawn O'Toole, who tossed a complete game. He finished with eight strikeouts, did not walk anybody and gave up one earned run.
Simmonds, who gave up seven runs in four innings, was credited with the loss and MacLeod allowed five runs in three innings of work.
The Chevys are on the road this weekend, visiting Truro and Dartmouth in inter-locking games with the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League.
