White Cross Christmas Campaign volunteers are busy this time of year, working to make this holiday season a little brighter for many people.
For more than 45 years the P.E.I. division of Canadian Mental Health Association has been distributing gifts to people feeling alone and forgotten.
As more and more people with mental illness are living in our communities, the need for the White Cross program has become greater each year. With the help of many community groups and the public, this effort is made possible across the Island.
The public is asked to donate small unwrapped gifts of a personal nature such as chocolates, cosmetics, gift cards, winter gloves or hats, shampoos and body washes in the White Cross drop-off boxes.
Drop boxes were set up Nov. 24 at the following businesses: Summerside Canadian Mental Health Association office, The Medicine Shoppe, and Shoppers Drug Mart in Summerside; Murphy's Pharmacy in Tyne Valley and Kensington; Alberton’s Brays Independence (Save Easy), The Medicine Shoppe and Alberton Pharmacy; Tignish Credit Union; and O'Leary Farmers Co-op.
Collection date is Dec. 17 when the volunteers will be gathering up the boxes of gifts.
