Summerside Lobster Carnival celebrations begin Thursday

SUMMERSIDE – The tents are up, the carnival music is playing, and all is ready for a weekend of fun at the annual Summerside Lobster Carnival.

This year marks the 62nd anniversary of the popular community event.

The festivities run from Thursday, July 12, until Saturday, July 14, and features favourites like the East Coast Amusements midway, the downtown sidewalk sale, harness racing and lobster.

Festivities kick off this morning with the Downtown Business Association Sidewalk Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Carnival grounds open at 12 p.m.

Thursday

– Downtown sidewalk sale: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

– Carnival/midway opening: 12 p.m.

– Official opening of the 2018 Lobster Carnival: 6 p.m.

– Lobster eating competition: 6:30 p.m.

– Lobster trap stacking competition: 7 p.m.

Friday

– Downtown sidewalk sale: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

– Carnival/midway opening: 12 p.m.

– Lobster 101 demonstrations: 12 to 4 p.m.

– Traditional Island lobster supper: 5 to 7 p.m.

– Harness racing 101: 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

– P.E.I. Youth Talent Competition: 7:30 p.m. (registration at 7 p.m.)

Saturday

– Summerside Farmers Market celebrates Lobster Carnival: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

– Callbecks Home Hardware Summerside Lobster Carnival Parade: 12 p.m.

– Carnival grounds/midway open: 12 p.m.

– Roller Derby Demo, lobster style: 1:30 p.m.

– Cardboard boat races at Spinnakers’ Landing: 1:30 p.m.
