Volunteers with the P.E.I. chapter of the MS Society of Canada are again involved in the 2017 MS Christmas cake campaign.
Funds raised by the chapter are used for programs for MS patients, of which their are some 900 Islanders.
“Our Christmas cake campaign is a key fundraiser that helps further treatment and programs for those dealing with this disease,’’ says campaign co-ordinator Tom Killorn.
MS is a neurological disease that can affect patients in such areas as speech, cognition, vision and motor skills. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world and is a leader in research and treatment for the disease.
The MS Society of Canada allocates over 85 per cent of revenues in areas such as patient services, research, clinics, public information and chapter development.
This year, the volunteers will be collecting orders for such holiday treats as dark fruit cake, cherry cake, maple walnut fudge, shortbread cookies and truffles.
The deadline to order is Friday, Nov. 17.
