Island A Cappella is recruiting new members and holding three “Add Your Voice” open-rehearsals in September to give interested women a first-hand experience singing in a barbershop chorus.
The performing and competing chorus, directed by Carolyn Prime, consists of forty members of all ages from communities across the Island.
“We’re really excited to expand our numbers this season,” said membership co-ordinator Colleen Edwards.
“We’re hoping women singers interested in learning more about performing a cappella music in the four-part barbershop style will take advantage of this opportunity in a friendly and educational setting.”
The open rehearsals will be held from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 13 in the lecture theatre at Charlottetown Rural High School, Sept. 20 at the Chaplaincy Building on the UPEI campus and Sept. 27 at Charlottetown Rural.
“We are looking for women who love to sing and perform. The ability to read music is always considered to be an asset but is not required,” said Prime.
“We make the learning and rehearsing process educational each week, focusing on individual strengths, tuning, vocal blend, and of course, having fun.”
women interested in participating in the open-rehearsal process are asked to pre-register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by visiting the chorus’ website www.islandacappella.ca or Facebook page www.facebook.com/islandacappella.
