Four-legged friends of all shapes and sizes strutted around the credit Union Place in Summerside on Saturday.

The event, P.E.I. Dog Expo, presented by the Lady Slipper Kennel Club in partnership with global Pet Foods, celebrates purebred dogs and responsible dog ownership.

Although not all the pooches that attended were purebred.

Connor Lockhart came with his eight-month-old puppy, Walter.

“Walter is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and the Shar-Pei mix,” he noted. “And he is the mascot for Royal Canin (a pet food company).” Royal Canin was one of many vendors at the event.

Among the pooches with their fur fluffed, nails cut, and teeth brushed, were two Shetland sheepdogs, Memphis and Whisper.

Shetland sheepdogs, Memphis and Whisper compete in the rally and obedience sport demonstrations at the P.E.I. Dog Expo event, Saturday afternoon.

“I started coming (to the P.E.I. Dog Expo) around 20 years ago with a trainer in Summerside,” said Christine MacKenzie, from Charlottetown, who participated in the sport demonstrations with her two Shetland sheepdogs. “And both my dogs compete in rally and obedience.”

The event that kicked off at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 4 p.m. included canine health and education presentations, flyball, rally obedience, agility, a pet parade, and more.
