Summerside, P.E.I. - Windswept beaches, crashing waves, dramatic lighthouses, Jellybean row houses, pets, wildlife, sunsets and sunrises were captured at the Eptek Art and Culture Centre on Sunday afternoon in a new exhibit.
The Red Sands Photography Club exhibition showcases amateur to award winning images that all tell astonishing stories that push the boundaries of technical skill.
Nadia Parks, from Miscouche, shot a sunset with rays highlighting each ripple across the sea.
“This image is taken just off the coast of Cape-Egmont on a lobster boat. This was one of our outings with the photography club,” she said.
“With the club we always try to pick a different outing each month, so this is one we set up for a tour to see the sunset. The frame was created during a different outing in Cavendish around spring, and I found the pieces on the beach.”
The photography club started in the spring of 2010 with seven members. Since then it has grown, peaking at 60, to the current 30 group members.
Mike Gallant, the co-president of the Best of Red Sands Photography Club, says anyone can join.
“We have anywhere from the beginner to the fairly advanced, and at every meeting we have tutorials that can include how to use different Photoshop programs,” he said.
The club has several excursions a year where photographers can get those coveted shots from communities cradling dramatic cliffs, birds in flight, reflections of boats in dappled water sitting silently in a harbour, to name but a few unforgettable experiences.
“We have been around the Island on tours, as well as further beyond such as the Bay of Fundy and Sackville,” Gallant added.
Yolande Gaudet, a member of the club, says patience, a keen eye for detail, and creativity helped her get the perfect sunset picture of Brier Island in Nova Scotia.
The photography club meets the first Monday of each month at Summerside Intermediate School in room 108 at 6:30 p.m.
Since the school is closed Monday 5, the next meeting is on March 12.
The exhibit wraps up on Thursday, March 29. For more information, visit their social media page.
