The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction is using addictions awareness week to draw attention to the stigma surrounding substance use disorders.

Verna Ryan, Health P.E.I.’s chief administrative officer for mental health and addictions, said the words people use when talking about problematic substance use and addiction matter.

“We can all play a simple role in addressing a basic, but critical barrier for those individuals with problematic substance use and addiction,” she said.

National Addictions Awareness Week runs from Nov.12-18.

More information about addiction supports in P.E.I. is available at www.healthpei.ca/addictions or by calling 1-888-299-8399.
