Most people cringe at even the thought of picking up their pet’s poop, but 10-year-old Iyla Kilbride is turning it into a summer job.

The idea came last fall, when her mother pitched the idea while they were discussing her getting a summer job.

“I don’t really know where it came from,” said Amy Kilbride, Iyla’s mother.

“It might have been from bigger cities that do it.”

Her daughter’s first reaction to the idea was priceless.

“Ew.”

Amy said she knew it could work because of her daughter’s love for animals.

“She has a lot of experience with animals and is not out of her realm of skills.”

“We didn’t really come up with any better ideas,” said Iyla, when asked why she decided to start the business.

The Summerside native is hoping to lend her services to those who might need an extra hand when it comes to picking up after their furry friends.

“The business is for people that might have a hard time getting around or people who are too busy,” said Iyla.

An advertising campaign was launched earlier this month and Iyla has already received calls and messages from people looking to use the service.

She charges $30 for a medium-size lawn and uses a scoop and rake to get the job done. She is available in Summerside and some surrounding areas.

Kilbride said to keep an eye out for some promotions happening in the next little while and they can be found on Facebook under Pet Poo Pick-Up Summerside, P.E.I.
