Cindy Robichaud sells a flower bouquet to Sean Doke, who is giving his girlfriend of four years, Rebecca Armstrong, the rose bouquet as a surprise gift on Sunday for Valentine’s Day.

Cindy Robichaud, who owns Kelly’s Flower Shoppe in Summerside, said 73 per cent of their customers this past weekend were men buying the go-to classic gift of — a bouquet of red roses.

“Most of our customers are men buying the top seller, red roses, and they will be back in nine months buying bouquets,” said Robichaud with a smile. “We have sold well over 400 parcels of flowers, and we still have a tonne of orders to fill.”

“We had a customer call us for flower delivery. He wants to surprise his wife on Valentine’s Day when she visits him in hospital.”

Flower prices varied, with colourful bouquets and vases in high demand, from $30 to $100, depending on the display.

Jewellery Plus was equally as busy with customers browsing necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings.

“We had a couple come in and they were high school sweethearts,” said a staff member. “I heard he proposed to her this morning and the whole family is celebrating.”
