Meetings and Conventions P.E.I. has been granted $660,000 from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the province.
It will help the non-profit organization promote the Island’s cultural and culinary attractions as well as the business amenities available.
Meetings and conventions are growing markets, attracting visitors in the shoulder seasons.
The funding consists of $400,0000 from ACOA over two years and $259,000 from the province for one year.
“This investment builds on commitments made by the government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which involves targeted actions to stimulate Atlantic Canada’s economy, including supporting strategic projects that position the region to capitalize on emerging opportunities,” said the ACOA media release.
Last year, 101 meetings were held in P.E.I., attracting 15,400 people, which put $20,270,515 into the local economy, said Meetings and Conventions P.E.I.
