Homburg Institute made the announcement Monday, explaining the collaboration with NSCC and Mount Saint Vincent University will launch the Executive Certificate in Real Estate Development in September. The program will be a on-year professional development program offered online in partnership with Mount’s Distance Learning department.

“We’re excited to be offering this program linking the Mount’s excellent Business facult with real estate industry professionals,” said Peter Mombourquette, chair of Business and Tourism at the university.

“Through online classes and lectures, professionals will be able to participate from anywhere in the world.”

The program will run through five online modules, taking about 12 months in total to complete. Topics include the fundamentals of real estate development, project management, finance and risk-management and real estate law.

In order to obtain the certificate, participants will complete an independent project that will require a holistic understanding of a real estate project from choosing a piece of land through to construction. A panel of academics and real estate professionals will judge the project.

“We’re reacting to the positive real estate trends that have been sweeping through P.E.I. and Atlantic Canada,” said Homburg Institutes, Phillip Homburg.

“Our focus at the institute has been on building knowledge within the field of real estate, and in doing so, enhancing the skills of industry professionals and those looking to pursue a career in the field.

“Our hope is that this program will provide an understanding of both the opportunities and the challenges facing the field in Atlantic Canada.”

The Homburg institute began its partnership with Mount Saint Vincent in 2016 for a similar program.

“By collaborating with MSVU and Homburg, the students will receive just in time knowledge from industry leaders which they, in turn, can put into practice immediate on completion of the program,” says Rachel Kuipers, NSCC’s manager of continuing education.
