SUMMERSIDE -- The M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships have become a family tradition for the Carmodys.
For the third straight year, the brother-sister act of Anson and Erin Carmody from Summerside have represented P.E.I. This, however, is Anson's fourth trip in a row to the junior nationals.
"It's kind of interesting," said Erin, 20. "It's nice to have a family member and he also knows what you're going through throughout the week and how tiring it is.
"It's nice to have that person there. Also, our team is pretty close with the boys' team too, so we can always talk to them and they're pretty easy to get along with."
Carmody skips her own rink out of the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. Anson is second stone for the Brett Gallant rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club. Erin and Anson are the daughters of Dr. Doug and Elspeth Carmody.
"She kind of does her thing and we do our thing," said Anson. "We obviously hope they're going to win."
Erin admits when the two P.E.I. teams are curling at the same time, it's hard not to glance and see how Anson and his rink are faring.
"We're usually side by side," she said. "You can't really help.
"But at the same you want to do as well as you can do, so the main focus is on our team."
Anson, a 19-year-old business student, added: "You're always looking at the scoreboard, but you don't try and watch their game or anything like that. You're very busy yourself."
