Canada West beats Sweden

SUMMERSIDE -- Canada West has evened its record at the 2009 World Junior 'A' Hockey Challenge.

Canada West downed Sweden 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon to conclude round-robin play 1-1 (won-lost). Sweden fell to 0-2 and both teams will play in Thursday's quarter-finals.

Canada West will play at 7 p.m., and if they win that game they will meet Canada East in Friday's 7 p.m. semifinal.

Cody Kunyk (1-1), Daniel Carr (1-1), Kellen Jones, Curtis Gedig, Mathew Bodie and Clarke Breitkreuz scored for Canada West and goaltender Sean Bonar turned in a 33-save performance. Adam Almquist, Sebastien Dyk and Joakim Nordstrom replied for Sweden.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and Canada West took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

The United States and Belarus will conclude the round robin tonight at 7 p.m.
