NORTH POLE - The most northerly mailbox in the world is preparing for Christmas, as Santa Claus' post office opens this week to get ready for the bags, and bags of children's letters addressed to the jolly old elf.

Canada Post announced today that Saint Nick and his helpers are primed to deal with an expected one million letters from Canadian children this holiday season. The collaboration between the national mail service and Claus dates back to 1982, and has since handled more 17 million letters. Since 2002, they've also responded to about 270,000 emails, too.

This year, about 11,000 Canada Post volunteers will help respond to the letters, which will be responded to in the same language they are written.

Children are asked to include their return address when mailing Santa.

His mailing address is:
SANTA CLAUS
NORTH POLE

CANADA
