Swim P.E.I. had lots to celebrate at their annual awards ceremony on Sunday.
"It has been a great year for our swimming community," said Brian Procter of Swim P.E.I. "Our number of Island swimmers has increased, we had a huge number of provincial records broken this year and we had the most ever qualifiers for Easterns."
Also, Swim P.E.I. participated in a successful Canada Games during the summer of 2009 and hosted its first ever Atlantic University Sports swimming championships.
Summerside Dolphins Swim Club was well represented at this year's awards ceremony with Tracy Stevenson winning Coach of the Year. This award recognizes a coach who has shown an outstanding commitment to the sport and the swimmers.
Tanya Tynski, also of Summerside, earned Administrator of the Year for her involvement in running the organization.
Molly Wedge of the Summerside Dolphins received the Maxine Connors Award for the female with the top FINA points.
The Barney Bree award was awarded to Maggie Finkle-Aucoin of the Summerside Dolphins. This award goes to the swimmer exhibiting the best leadership, fair play and sportsmanship skills while maintaining good grades in school.
The Alex B. Campbell award was presented to Paige Crowell of the Charlottetown Bluephins for being the most outstanding swimmer on P.E.I.
The Summerside Dolphin Swim Club had many high FINA points award winners this year.
Jessica Procter was the winner for ages 11-12 girls, Drake Holt was the winner for 11-12-year-old boys and Molly Wedge earned top spot for 15-17-year-old girls.
Swim P.E.I. recently held its Garden of the Gulf provincial swim meet at Summerside Wellness Centre.
"It was everything we wanted provincials to be," said Procter. "There were a lot of celebrations of personal bests."
