IGLS, Austria - Canadians Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse claimed a bronze medal at a bobsled world cup race Friday, side-stepping a flu bug that laid siege to their colleagues.
Humphries and Moyse clinched second place in the overall season standings heading into the Vancouver Olympics.
Racing on the track where the 1976 Olympic races were held, Humphries and Moyse posted a two-run time of one minute 47.46 seconds. Americans Shauna Rohbock and Michelle Rzepka finished first, in a time of one minute 47.13 seconds.
"This was more confirmation for me today that I know I can be in the top three," Humphries, a Calgarian, said in a release. "I know that I have one of the best with Heather behind me, I have the equipment and I know that I can do it."
Humphries and Moyse, from Summerside, P.E.I., capped a season in which they won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals over eight races.
"Consistency is the key and the more times you get on the podium, the more you start to believe it," Humphries said. "Heather is a powerhouse and finishing the World Cup off this way gives us more confidence heading into the Olympics."
Humphries and Moyse crossed the finish line having avoided the flu bug that sent Canadian Helen Upperton to the hospital on Thursday.
The men's bobsled is scheduled for Saturday.
