The West Prince under-16 girls won the Codiac Cup soccer tournament in Moncton, N.B., over the weekend.
The West Prince under-16 girls needed a shootout to win the Codiac Cup soccer tournament over the weekend.
West Prince and the host Codiac AAA team played to a 1-1 tie throughout regulation and overtime, setting the stage for a shootout. Nonie Lyon, Rickilee MacLeod, Sydnee DesRoche and Adele Arsenault scored for West Prince, which outscored its opponents 4-2 in penalty kicks.
“The team played extremely well all weekend,” assessed West Prince coach Lincoln Rix. “They battled the heat, especially on the various turf fields we played on, but remained focused throughout the tournament.”
Overall, West Prince went 4-1 (won-lost) in tournament play, including a 3-1 win over Dieppe in the semifinals. MacLeod, Martina Ellis and Sarah Corcoran provided the West Prince goals.

Ellis scored twice to pace West Prince’s attack while MacLeod, Jasmin Myers and Maddy Shea contributed single goals.
Julia O’Halloran notched the shutout.
Codiac AAA 1 West Prince 0
This was another tight game between the two evenly-matched teams.
West Prince 9 Saint John 0
Arsenault (2), Corcoran, MacLeod, Sadie Knox, Breanna Harper, Lyndsay Callaghan, Haley Ellis and Dena McHugh scored for West Prince.
O'Halloran and Julie Gallant shared the shutout.
