CHARLOTTETOWN – Soccer players Emma Kelly and Kelsey Jones have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Oct. 27.
Kelly, who plays the keeper position, was a key player in the Hurricanes’ Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) championship victory last weekend. She was named the player of the game in Sunday’s 1-0 victory in the championship game over the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics.
The ‘Canes also shut out the No. 1-ranked University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils in Saturday’s semifinal 1-0.
The women’s Hurricanes are travelling to Surrey, B.C., for the 2013 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) women’s soccer from Nov. 4 to 10.
Kelly is a Charlottetown native in the sport and leisure program at Holland College.
Jones, a centre-back from Kentville, N.S., helped the Hurricanes earn a silver medal at last weekend’s ACAA championships.
The Hurricanes defeated the UKC Blue Devils 1-0 in Saturday’s semifinals, and lost by an identical score to the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics in Sunday’s championship. Both games were decided in overtime.
