SUMMERSIDE - A dream start for the Summerside Western Capitals on Sunday quickly turned into a nightmare.
The Capitals, after handing Truro its first regulation-time loss with a well-deserved 4-2 victory Friday night, jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Maritime Junior 'A' Hockey League-leading Woodstock Slammers before the game was 10 minutes old.
The Caps would add an early goal in the second period to go up 4-0, but then the Slammers scored three goals in 1:42 to get back in the game and never looked back en route to an 8-4 win.

"We didn't have a great start, but you have to give them credit," said Slammers head coach Jason Tatarnic. "We knew their game plan would be to try and get pucks behind our D and try to force some things on the forecheck.
"We just weren't very sharp defensively."
Before 846 fans at Credit Union Place, the Slammers remained unbeaten in regulation time. They improved to 13-0-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) and the Caps fell to 10-7-0-0.
Michael Best (3), Brogan Bailey (2), Nick Huard (1-2), Bradley Greene and Mitch Flynn scored for the Slammers. Matt Myers (1-1), Nathan DesRoches (1-1), Daniel Whelan (1-1) and Jason Cameron replied for the Capitals. Chad Earle, Neil Sherren, Robert McEwan, Steve Brazil and Trevor Carmichael picked up helpers.
Overall, the Slammers outshot the Caps 44-22, including 24-7 and 13-3 advantages over the final two periods.
"They kept coming hard," said Capitals head coach Gordie Dwyer. "We played a real good first period and we seemed to get behind the 8-ball in the second period.
"We took some penalties, but their team played well. They skated hard and outplayed us in the last 40 minutes."
Tyler Piercy earned the win in relief of Woodstock starter Andre Guay, who was pulled after giving up two goals in the first 8:20.
"I pulled our goaltender and it had nothing to do with him," said Tatarnic. "I felt he was kind of left on his own and I thought it might give our guys a wake-up call. I have to give our guys credit, that was a good character win to come back like that."
Paul Dorsey took the loss and allowed seven goals on 39 shots in 47:59. Jared Kelly allowed one goal on five shots the rest of the way.

Yesterday's game was a joke. The caps played AWESOME in the first 20 minutes and then lost it. All I have to say was there were only four guys that seemed to be trying Matt Myers had a great game, Ned O'Brien too, Dorsey was exceptional, and the number one player I seen out there was Will Johnson. The rest need to wake up! Skating by the puck, not skating for puck, it was terrible to watch. With the exclusion of the 4 players I named I would've been better off watching little kids playing. It was the caps game to win and they gave it up. Oh and bench D. Whelan......seemed he was on the ice for every goal Woodstock got except when he was in the box. And he takes stupid penalties. If he wasn't on the ice when they scored, he was in the box and should've been given assists when they did score.
Keep up the good work Johnson!!!!
