SOUTHWEST RIVER -
High winds are once again creating mischief for schedule makers at the Southwest River venue of the Canada Games.
Canoe and kayak competitions are going ahead today, but there will be some changes.
That includes moving the K-1 1000M final, in which Cardigan kayaker Brady McKenna is paddling for a medal, to Friday from today.
Sport director Lee Forbes has his fingers crossed finals will be run for all races by tomorrow, when the canoe/kayak events end.
"We will have eight medal presentations at between 5:30 and 6 (p.m.) today and at the end of tomorrow, God willing, we'll do medal presentations for 18 events," said Forbes.
Ten medal presentations were held Tuesday, with none on Wednesday, due to the course's closure after several heats, as a result of high winds.
Winds gusted to 70 kilometres an hour yesterday at their peak and could gust to 50 km or more today.
And Friday's forecast?
"Not any better," said Forbes.
"It's still windy tomorrow. We'll do as much as we can do, and as always (the focus) will be on the safety of the people involved."
