Stonepark girls win Callaghan Invitational

PROFIT’S CORNER -- Stonepark dribbled off with the championship title in the M.E. Callaghan Girls Invitational basketball tournament, played here on Friday and Saturday.

Stonepark, winners of Pool B in the six-team tournament, defeated the host Callaghan Cougars, winners of Pool A, 68-30 to claim the championship.

Stonepark won 61-28 over Hernewood and 69-40 over Kensington in pool play. Meanwhile, M.E. Callaghan had pool wins of 52-30 over East Wiltshire and 51-18 over EB Chandler.

EB Chandler took second in Pool A with a 30-26 win over East Wiltshire while Kensington defeated Hernewood 45-36 to claim second place in Pool B.

Pool B teams went on to win all the cross-over games in the tournament. Hernewood was a 35-31 winner over East Wiltshire in a game between third-place teams. Kensington won the battle of second-place teams – 44-28 over EB Chandler.

Top point-getters for Stonepark in the championship final were Maddie Hurley (13), Nicole Davies (11) and Ashley Plaggenhoef (11). Lindsay Callaghan (12) and Jasmin Myers (6) led the way for Callaghan.
