In Summerside Intermediate School tip-off basketball tournament
SUMMERSIDE – The Athena Hawks went a perfect 3-0 (won-lost) in the 36th annual Summerside Intermediate School tip-off basketball tournament last weekend.

The Hawks posted a pair of convincing wins on Friday – 57-22 versus East Wiltshire and 55-28 against Birchwood – and then topped Stonepark 56-41 on Saturday.
The tournament attracted 12 teams - six boys and six girls – for the round-robin format. There were no championship games.
Following is the boys’ recap:
East Wiltshire 22
At Athena Consolidated, Matt Tanton poured in a game-high 26 points for the Hawks.
Dylan MacKinnon had seven points for East Wiltshire, which trailed 27-7 at halftime.
Players of the game were MacKinnon and Mateo Gomez (Athena).
At Athena Consolidated, the Hawks built a 34-point lead at the half - 40-6.
Birchwood, though, did not give up and outscored Athena 22-15 in the second half.
Tanton continued to shine for the Hawks with a 21-point effort while Cameron Hoy, with 14 points, was Birchwood's top scorer.
Players of the game were Tanton and Simon Wright (East Wiltshire).
At Athena Consolidated, the Hawks pulled away from Stonepark in the second half after taking a 28-23 lead into the intermission.
Tanton was the Hawks' top offensive producer with 18 points.
Adam Ryan's 10-point effort was tops for Stonepark.
Players of the game were Matthew Arsenault (Athena) and Darby White (Stonepark).
M.E. Callaghan 47
At Summerside Intermediate, Stonepark, led by White's 22 points, pulled away from the West Prince school in the fourth quarter.
Cody Ellsworth’s 12 points sparked Callaghan.
Callaghan held a 31-29 advantage at halftime.
Players of the game were White and Ellsworth.
Summerside Intermediate 51
East Wiltshire 25
At Summerside Intermediate, the host Owls jumped out to an 18-4 cushion in the first quarter and never looked back.
Jayden MacLean (13) and Chris Richard (12) keyed Summerside Intermediate's offence.
For East Wiltshire, Dylan MacKinnon collected six points.
The halftime score was 25-11 for Summerside Intermediate.
Players of the game were Cameryn Wadman (Summerside Intermediate) and Keegan McCarvill (East Wiltshire).
Summerside Intermediate 41
At Summerside Intermediate, Birchwood rallied from a 12-point deficit and were seven points down – 26-19 – at halftime.
Top point-getters for Birchwood were Melvin Sim-Turay (12) and Cameron Hogg (11).
MacLean and Logan MacDougall each had eight points for the Owls.
Players of the game were Richard and Jack Fraser (Birchwood).
M.E. Callaghan 66
East Wiltshire 17
At Summerside Intermediate, M.E. Callaghan outscored East Wiltshire 17-4 in the first quarter.
Jacob Rayner poured in a game-high 18 points while Elon Wilkie contributed 10.
Sean Goley finished with six points for East Wiltshire.
The halftime score was 31-10 for Callaghan.
Players of the game were Rayner and Ben Burey (East Wiltshire).
Summerside Intermediate 46
At Summerside Intermediate, the Owls led 22-20 at halftime before extending their lead in the second half.
MacLean led the Owls with 22 points. Jordan Smith chipped in with five points.
Adam Ryan, who finished with 12 points, was Stonepark's top point-getter.
Players of the game were Smith and Issac Kirkland (Stonepark).
M.E. Callaghan 49
At Athena Consolidated, Hoy had 19 points to lead Birchwood's offence.
Ellsworth poured in 12 points for Callaghan, which trailed 29-23 at halftime.
Players of the game were Colton Chaisson (Callaghan) and Jordan Reid (Birchwood).
