CHARLOTTETOWN – The Holland College men’s and women’s basketball teams received some good news on Tuesday.
Both Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) teams cracked the top-10 rankings for the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA).
The men’s team sits third while the women are in 10th position.
The men’s Hurricanes finished with a CCAA silver medal last year after losing to the VIU Mariners in the final.
The Mariners are currently ranked fifth while the Langara Falcons hold the top spot. The Sheridan Bruins sit second.
The Hurricanes, who are the only ACAA team that is ranked inside the top 10, opened the regular season with a 108-40 road victory over the Dal-AC Rams on Saturday.
The Holland College women enter the top 10 after a solid off-season of recruiting, a strong pre-season and an 85-31 season-opening win over the Dal-AC Rams on Saturday.
The ‘Canes are the second ACAA team ranked in the top 10. The St. Thomas Tommies are No. 2. The Hurricanes and Tommies will clash in Fredericton, N.B., on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Nomades de Montmorency of the RSEQ is ranked No. 1.
