CHARLOTTETOWN – Women’s basketball player Ashley Moss and football player Jay Dearborn have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Nov. 2.

Moss, a first-year forward with the Hurricanes from Nassau, Bahamas, led her team to an 85-31 victory in Truro versus the Dal-AC Rams on Saturday. Moss scored 19 points and hauled in 12 rebounds in the win, which was Holland College’s first regular-season game of the year. She also added three blocks and three steals.
The Hurricanes travel to the St. Thomas University to take on the Tommies on Saturday, with the women’s game taking place at 2 p.m. The ‘Canes will hold their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 16, when they welcome the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics to the Centre for Community Engagement. Game time is 4 p.m.
Dearborn, a punter, placekicker and safety from Sydenham, Ont., is in the first year of the energy systems technology program. He is a graduate of Sydenham High School, where he was a multi-sport star.
Jay recorded two field goals of 35 and 27 yards, and a single on a punt through the end zone. He punted 11 times with an average of 39 yards.
From his safety position, he had a key interception that changed the momentum of the game, and he was also in on numerous tackles. His highlight-reel performances helped the Hurricanes defeat the UNB-Saint John Seawolves 20-12 and capture the Atlantic Football League championship.
The football Hurricanes will now travel to Burlington, Vermont, for their final game of the season against the University of Vermont Catamounts as part of the U.S. college-based National Club Football Association. The game takes place on Sunday, Nov.10.
