In Thursday night’s CDP feature
CHARLOTTETOWN – A field of nine pacers will go toe-to-toe in the $1,850 Race 13 feature pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday.
Post time for the 14-dash card is 7 p.m.
Pinner will look to make it two in a row from Post 3 for catch-driver John Holmes, co-owner and trainer Brian Ladner and co-owners Kevin and Lillian Ladner, all of Charlottetown. The seven-year-old Mach Three gelding was a 1:56.3 winner on Saturday, but will face some tough opposition from the outside.
Cambest Kisser (Jason Hughes) is shouldered with Post 8, but the Stephen Quinn-trainee is making a major drop in class after racing in the Island Pacing Championship Series the past three weeks. He finished sixth in the $10,700 final, which was won by All Turain in 1:52.2.
Race analyst Les McIsaac is selecting Cambest Kisser for the top spot.
“He's been facing the bearcats for the past month, and except for the last one (where he wasn't alone) he's been right with them,” McIsaac says. “It won't be easy from out here, but if a couple of things go his way he's a potential sleeper.”
Also in the field are Camcun (Kenny Arsenault), Doll R General (Mark McKinnon), Cabo Pan Lucas (Vincent Poulton), Roscoes Child (Brodie MacPhee), Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie), Sterling Seelster (Marc Campbell) and Van Zant (Ron Matheson).
The evening’s trot class lines up in Race 4 for a $1,100 purse. Scarlet Patti is favoured from Post 4 for driver Campbell, trainer Darryl MacLean and owner Gordon MacLean of Winsloe.
Other top entries are Incredible Her Bee (McKinnon) and Dunmore Alpha (Steven Shepherd).
Race 9 has the back-up pace for a purse of $1,550, and Tempo Seelster will see his first real test for trainer-driver and owner Poulton.
The three-year-old Santanna Blue Chip gelding has won all five of his races since relocating the East Coast, but was placed back to seventh on Sept. 12 for interference. His last three wins were by open lengths, but all eight of his Thursday rivals show miles faster than his in their last four.
Artners In Crime (Matheson) is selected as the favourite from the trailing Post 9 while Lucky Boot Cam (Hughes) is the second choice off the rail. Tempo Seelster has been selected for third.
Live racing continues this weekend with a card on Saturday in Charlottetown at 6 p.m., featuring the Maritime Breeders eliminations for two-year-old colt and filly pacers and the first leg of the Dave Rose Memorial $3,500 claiming series.
A live program is also scheduled for Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Maritime Breeders elimination for two- and three-year-old trotters, along with the first leg of the Louis McIsaac Memorial Series.
