Games will take place on Friday and Saturday and if last weekend is any indication, the crowd will be rocking the building.
After three victories over the Lee Academy Pandas, UNBSJ Seawolves and Crandall Chargers last weekend, the Hurricanes look forward to competing against Atlantic University Sport (AUS) teams UPEI and Acadia, along with fellow Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) rival Mount Allison.
One game that will surely draw local interest is the Hurricanes taking on the UPEI Panthers on Friday at 8 p.m.
“This will be an intense set of games for all teams, and our boys are very motivated about rising to the challenge,” said returning guard Alvin Parker, who was last year’s Holland College male athlete of the year. “Playing at home in pre-season is awesome, and it offers everyone a chance to see some super ball with high-calibre teams at our house.”
Parker expects fans will enjoy the basketball product, adding, “UPEI, Acadia and Mount Allison run good programs and seeing new teams will help us develop as a team.”
Saturday, the Hurricanes will meet the Acadia Axemen at 10 a.m., while the team will challenge the Mount Allison Mounties at 4 p.m.
Hurricanes head coach Josh Whitty is excited for the challenge this weekend brings. “We got off to a good start to our pre-season last weekend, and we've got another great weekend of competition ahead,” said Whitty. “In UPEI and Acadia we have two of the best teams in the AUS, while Mt. A is one of the ACAA's best every year.
“All three are well coached, talented and deep. We'll need to play our best basketball.”
Admission into the games is $5 for adults while Holland College students and school-aged children are free.
