CHARLOTTETOWN – The Three Oaks Axewomen dropped a six-point decision to the Colonel Gray Colonels in the championship game of the Charlottetown Rural Confederation City Classic here Saturday.

The final score was 55-49.

The Axewomen finished the three-day basketball tournament with an overall record of 3-1 (won-lost).

Three Oaks defeated Northumberland 89-25 and Cole Harbour 72-50 in round-robin play, and got by Amherst 46-43 in the semifinals.

Madison Tompkins and Charlotte Thompson of the Axewomen were named tournament all-stars.

Becky Clark scored 12 points to lead the Axewomen, who received 10 points from Tompkins and eight from Michaela Walker.

Walker was named Three Oaks’ player of the game.

Three Oaks 46 Amherst 43

Thompson (12), Tompkins (9) and Clark (7) were the top point-getters for the Axewomen.

Jaime MacLean earned the player-of-the-game award for Three Oaks.

Three Oaks 72 Cole Harbour 50

Tompkins had a big game pouring in 27 points to pace the Axewomen. Thompson (12) and Sloane Rioux (10) also scored in double digits.

Tompkins was selected as the Axewomen’s player of the game.

Northumberland 25

Tompkins had another big game with a 28-point effort. Thompson (14) and Aimee Gillis (12) were the other leading scorers for Three Oaks.

Gillis was named Three Oaks’ player of the game.
