The Charlottetown Rural Raiders will meet the Lockview Dragons in the other, also at 11 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for Three Oaks at 3 p.m.
The Axemen, who are looking to win back-to-back Christmas Classic titles, defeated the Colonel Gray Colonels 69-51 on Friday afternoon to finish round-robin play 2-0 (won-lost) atop Pool One in the senior AAA basketball tournament. Lockview, which defeated Colonel Gray 79-64 in Friday’s late game, was 1-1.
Meanwhile, Charlottetown Rural won both its games Friday – 77-48 over Bluefield and 80-71 versus Millwood, which fell to 1-1.
Axemen 69 Gray 51
At Three Oaks, Dylan Gallant poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the Axemen. Lucas Coughlin contributed 19, and Alec Parise added five.
The Charlottetown-based Colonels were led by Jeff Morrison’s 15 points. Joel Dennis (10) and Brett Butler (7) were the team’s other leading scorers.
Although the score was close for most of the first half, the Axemen went on a late run to open up a 40-27 lead at the half.
The players of the game were Coughlin and Morrison.
Rural 77 Bluefield 48
At Summerside Intermediate School (SIS), Kyle Gillis (24), Kyle Welton (16) and Ryan MacKinnon (14) keyed Rural’s attack.
Zach Marsh (22), Evan Gorman (8), Matt Dawson (6) and Jeremy Hertz (6) were Bluefield’s leading scorers.
Rural led 42-16 at halftime.
Gillis and Marsh were the players of the game.
Rural 80 Millwood 71
At SIS, the teams went into halftime tied 37-37.
Welton’s game-high 31 points sparked Rural, which received a 22-point effort from Gillis.
Bryton Comeau (29) and Trey Lucas (15) were Millwood’s top scorers.
Lockview 79 Gray 64
At Summerside Intermediate School, Alex Chisholm’s 25 points led the way for Lockview, which took a 44-34 advantage into halftime.
Butler (17), Joe Dennis (16) and Brad Farrow (13) were Rural’s leading scorers.
