MONCTON, N.B. - Hockey P.E.I. will be well represented at the 14th annual Atlantic Challenge Cup here at the Tim Hortons 4-Ice Centre this weekend.
The annual event showcases the best players in Atlantic Canada representing their respective provinces. Twenty teams will be looking for an Atlantic championship.
The Atlantic Challenge Cup features the top talent in Atlantic Canada for under-15 and under-17 girls, along with under-14, under-15 and under-16 boys.
Provincial teams
Provincial teams from New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island will compete in the round-robin event. Over 400 players will compete in five age divisions.
The Atlantic Challenge Cup is the culmination of the high-performance programs in each of the provinces. The program, at the provincial level, has provided players, staffs and officials an opportunity to develop, learn and challenge themselves as they strive for excellence.
Hockey P.E.I.'s development process began in April and will conclude with the Atlantic Challenge Cup.
Island officials
In addition to this being a great event for selected players, Hockey P.E.I. is proud to have officials represent the branch at these championships. The selected officials will have a chance to work games at these championships, and have the same goal as the teams - earn a spot in the gold-medal games.
Referee Jackson Doughart from Kensington, along with linesmen Jonathan Bouchey and TJ Courtney, both from Charlottetown, will represent Hockey P.E.I.
